Mitch Keller has opened the season looking like the ace Pittsburgh needs, carrying over last year’s steady workload with sharper command and a livelier fastball. Against a San Diego lineup whose core bats—Tatis Jr., Cronenworth and Bogaerts—have yet to find their timing, Keller should be able to work efficiently through the first six frames, allowing just a solo shot from Jackson Merrill in the third. Michael King’s pitch mix keeps hitters off-balance, but the current Pirate order is hunting fastballs early and making loud contact.
