St. Louis turns to veteran right-hander Miles Mikolas, whose heavy sinker profiles well against Tampa Bay’s right-hand–dominant middle of the order. The Cardinals seize an immediate lead when Lars Nootbaar turns a 1-0 fastball into a leadoff double and Nolan Arenado plates him with a sac-fly in the first. In the third inning, Jordan Walker jumps on a hanging curveball for a two-run blast, capitalizing on Bradley’s tendency to get behind in counts. Tampa Bay scratches back in the fourth via Randy Arozarena’s RBI double, but Mikolas limits further damage by coaxing a double-play ball from Junior Caminero.
St. Louis adds insurance in the fifth when Brendan Donovan ambushes a first-pitch cutter for an opposite-field single, later scoring on Willson Contreras’ liner to left. Both bullpens take over in the seventh; the Cardinals’ high-octane trio of JoJo Romero, Giovanny Gallegos, and closer Ryan Helsley is fresher after moderate use the previous two nights, while Tampa’s late-inning arms are running on fumes after back-to-back multi-inning outings.
The Rays narrow the gap in the sixth on a José Siri solo shot and threaten again in the ninth when Pete Fairbanks, pressed into emergency duty, keeps the game close enough for a last push. Helsley, however, dials up 101 mph to strand the tying run, preserving a 5-3 Cardinals victory and completing the sweep.
