Detroit capitalizes in the sixth when Colt Keith drives an opposite-field RBI single off a tiring Pfaadt, stretching the lead to 4-2. The Tigers tack on an insurance run in the eighth against Miguel Castro when Riley Greene punches a line-drive RBI single to center.
Arizona answers in the bottom half: a two-out rally sparked by Geraldo Perdomo and Alek Thomas chips the deficit to one, but Kyle Finnegan strands the tying run at third. Kenley Jansen, rested after an off-day, dots the ninth with cutters above the hands of Nolan Arenado and Marte to lock down his second save of the young season.
Detroit’s slightly deeper bullpen, the matchup advantage of Mize over Pfaadt, and early-season form tilt a tight contest the Tigers’ way, 5-4.
